Your BuildMyService number explained (texts, calls, forwarding)
Why your automatic texts come from a new number, and how calls still reach you.
When your system goes live, you get a dedicated BuildMyService phone number alongside your own mobile. This is the number your automatic texts come from, and it can act as the public number for your business. It often catches people out the first time they see it, so here is exactly what it is and how it works.
What the number is for
This dedicated number is what sends all your automatic messages. When a customer fills in your quote form, the instant text that starts a conversation comes from this number. When you miss a call, the Missed Call Text Back message comes from this number too. It is the engine behind your speed-to-lead system, working in the background so every enquiry gets a fast reply.
Why your texts do not come from your mobile
Your automatic texts are sent by the system, not typed out on your phone, so they go out from your BuildMyService number rather than your personal mobile. This is a good thing. It keeps your business messaging consistent and professional, it means your personal number stays private, and it lets the system handle the instant replies without tying up your own phone. All those conversations land neatly in your app inbox, where you reply to them.
Showing it as your business number
Because it is a proper phone number, you can use this as the public number for your business: on your website, your van, your Google Business Profile and your cards. That way every customer contact runs through your system, which keeps your inbox complete and nothing slips through.
How calls still reach you
You do not have to sit and watch a new number. When someone calls your BuildMyService number, the call forwards straight to your own mobile, so you answer it exactly as you would any other call. If you cannot get to it, that is when Missed Call Text Back steps in and texts the caller for you. You get the best of both: a professional business line and your phone ringing in your pocket as normal.
Changing the wording of your texts
The messages this number sends are set up by us during your build, written to sound natural and friendly. If you ever want to tweak the wording, you do not change it yourself: just tell us what you would like it to say through the Contact support button on any page, and we will update it for you.
